TESL Challenge Series – Join SirProok’s Deck Building Tournament Series

SirProok is the organizer of the TESL Challenge Series. He is a long-time TESL player, YouTuber, and Twitch content creator from North Carolina. During the 2019 Master Series, SirProok qualified for the Last Chance Qualifiers with off-meta, home-brew lists, including a Banelord Wound Scout and a Control Daggerfall deck.
The TESL Challenge Series allows EST region individuals and Europeans to participate and provides a series of unique deck-building tournaments. The goals of the TESL Challenge Series are:
- a low barrier to entry,
- a constructive environment, and
- an invitation to innovate.
For each tournament in the series, players face a different challenge. The challenges are designed to explore various aspects of the game. Players with a smaller collection can easily participate since the soul gem cost of the required cards is intentionally kept low. SirProok also provides feedback on decks that are submitted, making this an innovative and exciting learning experience for new and long-time players alike.
The prizes for the TESL Challenge Series are as follows:
- 60 packs plus, a legendary pack plus a premium legendary pack to the winner
- Two packs to the second and third place finishers
Challenges in the TESL Challenge Series
The challenges provided by the series are very diverse and will help you sharpen your deck building skills. For example, during the Oathman Challenge tournament, players were required to run 3 copies of all Oathmen in their colors. In preparation for this tournament, one player discovered a Telvanni Oathman/Eager Torturer OTK combo in Assassin that hadn’t been seen before.
The next challenge is the Crocodile Challenge on November 10, where you must run three of the following: Crocodile Brute, Lurking Crocodile, Ravenous Crocodile.
On November 17 will be the Thanksgiving Challenge, in which you will need to run three of the following: Elixir of Conflict, Grisly Gourmet, Prized Chicken in a 50-card deck.
Registration & Tournament Format
To register for a tournament in the series, visit SirProok’s TESL Challenge Series Registration Page on challonge.com. You need to post an English screenshot of your deck in Prook’s discord before the first round of the tournament: https://discord.gg/R4uZtgz.
The tournaments follow the Swiss format. In this format, players meet one-on-one in each round. They are paired using a set of rules designed to ensure that each competitor plays opponents with a similar running score, but not the same opponent more than once. The winner is the competitor with the highest aggregate points across all rounds. All competitors play in each round unless there is an odd number of players.
Watching the TESL Challenge Series
SirProok streams the TESL Challenge Series on his twitch channel, at https://www.twitch.tv/sirprook. Sometimes, SirProok selects two random viewers after the finale to win some pack codes. You should consider following his channel to get notifications.
What’s next?
Some of you might be hungry to play in more tournaments or to watch more competitive play. Tesl.blog is spending this month highlighting community-led competitions, which we believe to be fun for all to watch. Besides that, we hope that some of you might be interested in helping to organize or otherwise support one of these initiatives.
Keep in mind that fans of the game organize these tournaments. Every helping hand is much appreciated. If you would like to help, please get in touch with SirProok via Discord SirProok#2997 or Twitter @ProokSir).
