Legends gets its first Oblivion expansion – The Daedra are Coming to Town
Yesterday, Bethesda announced the fifth expansion for The Elder Scrolls Legends – Jaws of Oblivion. The set will contain over 75 new cards and launches on October 8th, 2019 and is available for pre-order now! The set relates to the events unfolding during the Oblivion Crisis in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (see the official Bethesda announcement) and is themed around daedric creatures.
About the Deadra
Daedra are divine beings. They prefer the extreme and are capable of tremendous acts of devastation. Since the Deadra haven’t participated in the creation of the world (= the Mundus), they exist in a realm called Oblivion. Oblivion knows at least sixteen major planes, each ruled by a Daedric Prince (like Azura, Boethiah, Hircine, Molag Bal, Namira or Sheogorath). The Daedric Princes are the most powerful of the Daedra, and are most commonly worshipped as gods.
Each of the Deadric Princes has many servants, usually known as Lesser Daedra. Many of them follow a particular Daedric Prince. However, any of the Lesser Deadra can serve any Daedric Prince by taking part in an “Oath Bond”. The study of magic (more precisely in the school of Conjuration) often summons Daedra to the plane of the mortals.
The Oblivion Crisis (Spoilers)
The Oblivion Crisis refers to a brutal war between the Daedra and the inhabitants of Tamriel. The crisis began with the assassination of Emperor Uriel Septim VII and all of his known heirs by the Mythic Dawn, a daedric cult that worshipped Mehrunes Dagon, the Daedric Prince of Destruction, Change, Revolution, Energy, and Ambition. Shortly thereafter, the Oblivion Gates opened and Daedra poured into Tamriel.
Mankar Camoran is the leader of the Mythic Dawn. During the crisis, Mankar gained possession of the Amulet of Kings, that is traditionally worn by the ruling Emperor. However, Mankar ultimately failed to dispose of the last remaining heir, Martin Septim, an illegitimate son of Uriel Septim VII. Martin was found and kept safe by the Blades until the end of the Oblivion crisis, when he was forced to sacrifice himself to stop Mehrunes Dagon.
